Muzaffarpur Project

There is a proposal for installation of two nos. 2x250 MW thermal units in the extension Stage-I at Muzaffarpur (MTPS). The CEA has accorded techno-economic clearance for this project in May’93 and Planning Commission also accorded approval in 1995 at an estimated cost of Rs. 1452.13 crores. But the construction work of this project could not start as yet due to non-availability of fund. The present day estimated cost has gone to Rs.2250 crores. On availability of fund, the project is likely to commence by end of 10th Plan and to be completed in 11th plan.

This plant will be a boon for Bihar especially for North-Bihar region. This place is situated on the North side of Ganga at a Latitude of 26º-11'-30" North and longitude 85º-11'-00" East. It is situated on NH-28 and is on East Central Railway.

There is also a proposal to install one unit of 250 MW in its extension Stage-II.

Patna Gas based Power Plant

The state Government has a proposal to set up gas based plant in and around Patna. Feasibility report for setting up of two-multi fuel gas turbine is under preparation. There is a proposal for two phase of 400 MW each totaling to 800MW. This will be the first of its kind in Bihar, which will run on gas. In this regard, Gas Authority of India has agreed to supply gas for this project. The probable site for this plant is to be located.
